2020 Highlights

2020 Highlights

Stay at home - Lockdown - cake making - super hot Summer!

It's safe to say 2020 has been challenging. It has had an effect on everyone in different ways. My condolences go out to everyone who has suffered the loss of someone close to them, and a huge thank you to the NHS staff and all key workers that are keeping everything ticking over.  I never imagined we would be a year into a pandemic when I sat here year ago and worked on my 2019 highlights, you never know what's around the corner so it's so important to be grateful and thankful for all of the small things. It's been a tough year for the industry, as it has been so for so many others. In March 2020, I was just about to start 'wedding season' and was so ready to get going after the Winter off! My inbox was soon inundated with emails from brides and grooms looking to postpone and move their weddings to 2021. I have been so grateful that everyone that has included me in their date changes, checking I am available for the new date, this all helped to ensure I didn't lose the bookings completely.

As I have already mentioned in the heading, I have the greatest memories from 2020, Stay at home, lockdown, baking and a super hot Summer! I actually didn't shoot a wedding until October! and this wasn't an original booking. The only original booking left in my diary was at the end of December, and it was beautiful. In-between lockdowns I was able to do lots of family portraits which was lovely! and also the front door shoots where I captured families either through the window or on their doorstep, strange but historic images to look back on in years to come.

Spending time with my Husband and three daughters at home has had its ups and downs! It was definitely easier in the Spring and Summer last year when the weather was amazing! At times out in the garden with the paddling pool out it felt like we were all on holiday! I can't say the same at the moment as we are in our 3rd official national lockdown in the Winter.  I thought I would look back through what I have captured this year and was surprised at how many images I picked for my highlights.

At the moment,  I don't think we are closer to having weddings and general life back to normal, but there is hope for the Summer now they are rolling out the new vaccine, so fingers crossed!

Stay safe everyone,

Sian.

Siân & Jamie Wedding - The Kymin Monmouth

Jamie & Siân - 27th August 2019

The Kymin Monmouth & The Angel Abergavenny.

Jamie and Siân got married on a beautiful sunny August afternoon in the rolling hills of Monmouthshire. They had an intimate wedding as their wedding party consisted of just 8 people including themselves! When Jamie first got in touch with me and explained that they were passionate about photography and the importance of it to them I was excited that I was going to be part of their special day.

HIGHLIGHTS OF 2018

Well, where do I start! I thought 2016 was an extremely busy year as I worked and welcomed the arrival of our second daughter Penelope, but I was wrong! 2018 sure topped the craziness by 100%

In 2018 I managed to shoot 18 beautiful weddings,20 commercial shoots, 12 portrait shoots, and 6 e-shoots, have a third baby and move house! Not to mention it was the HOTTEST Summer since 1976 - but I did it and I'm so so pleased. I've been running my photography business for 6 years now, I can't believe where the time has gone. I have always worked from a desk in the dining room which has had its challenges as being right in the middle of the house, it's hard to get quiet time to get on with it all. In our new home I'm so pleased to have my own office space where I can have my work on the wall, files on shelves and albums out to view. It's amazing how having a creative work space can help with mindset, motivation and personal development.

As I've been looking back through last years images, I have been thinking again as to how thankful I am to all of the couples who have booked me to capture their special day. I know I say it each year, on each new highlights post, but I really do mean it. Being able to photograph people going about their lives is a dream come true. Photographs are so important. They are important to us now, but they will be treasured even more in years to come by our children's children.

I have carefully selected (way to many) images to share with you from 2018. I tried to cut it down, but it was too difficult! So here they are, all 274 of them! I have a couple of weeks off weddings now, it's a great time to update my website, order new albums and meet up with my photographer friends before we start another crazy season. It's also wonderful to have free weekends to spend with my family. 2019 is going to be a special year for us too as we are getting married in August. It's going to be wonderful being the bride and groom for a change! Just to think this time next year as I will be writing my 2019 highlight's blog as a married woman!

Here's to what 2019 has in store!

Sian

June 16th 2018 - The Plough and Harrow - Wick

I had the honour of photographing this beautiful wedding back in June. Yasmin got in touch a couple of months ago after following my photography on Instagram and loved my style of shooting so I was super pleased I was available on their wedding date. Yasmin and Will were certain that the photography was very important to them!

I'm delighted to share with you a selection on beautiful images from their amazing (very windy) wedding day! The confetti images are my favourites from the set - it was blowing a gale!

Enjoy!

LAURA & IEUAN - ROSEDEW FARM WEDDING

Laura & Ieuan - 11th April 2018

Rosedew Farm

I first met with Laura, Ieuan and their beautiful daughters 8 months before their big day! They told me of all the fine details, how they plan to decorate the barn and that their day will have a lot of children so lots of fun activities for them to keep busy, hence the bouncy castle!

Mr & Mrs Fox Wedding - Holm House Penarth

Mr & Mrs Fox (Alberto & Sally!)

 5th August 2017

St Cadocs Church Llancarfen - Holm House Penarth

At this beautiful wedding, an Angel married a Fox! Alberto and Sally have the best surnames!  The wedding took place in the most gorgeous little church in Llancarfen village in The Vale Of Glamorgan. Sally grew up in this village and her family have been members of the community and church for many years, so it was s really special place for them to say their I do's. Family and friends met in the village pub and were joined by the Male voice choir - they often like to wet their whistle before their performance! (which was wonderful) The bell ringers were playing very joyful music, you can imagine how lovely it was. It was one of those warm mornings you occasionally get in the Summer! we knew it was going to turn into a scorcher of a day.

After a beautiful service, we all headed to Holm House Penarth where the celebrations continued. All of the guests where able to enjoy the views of the channel and socialise outside in the sun. During the Summer season, I like to split up the time I spend taking bride and groom portraits. I usually spend a bit of time with them before the wedding breakfast. Then after speeches when the sunlight is a bit lower and softer, I like to do some more. As we had such a beautiful Summer evening, we went down the Penarth Pier and seafront and made the most of it! Sally and Alberto had fantastic fox masks which made for fun unique images!

It was such a fun shoot and I love the images I've selected to share with you of their special day!

THE LITTLE THEATRE BATH WEDDING - KESHIA AND MATT

Keshia and Matt married in The Little Theatre Bath on Saturday. It was wonderful for me to photograph a wedding over the boarder! In fact I have a lot of non Welsh weddings this year! It's lovely to work at new venues. This is still a working cinema, it so quaint and pretty! Of course, being a cinema it is very dark, which made lighting a challenge (a good challenge) I had an off camera flash set up to capture Keshia as she walked down the aisle, this light adds a theatrical feel to the mood. The guests were supplied with 3D glasses and were served popcorn doing the ceremony, very untraditional which is fab!

Bath is a beautiful town with such beautiful old stone buildings.  We managed to get outside and take some gorgeous images just before it lashed down with rain! (these shots are some of my favourite from the day) You've got to love a bride & groom that will get out in the rain!

There was so much energy at Keshia & Matts wedding, they were a fun couple to photograph. Here are a couple of peeks from the day!

Abergavenny Wedding - Beth & Adam

Easter Sunday was the perfect day to officially start wedding season 2017. After having quite a long break from weddings following the birth of Penelope in September, I was super ready to get back into the swing of things! 7 months really does fly by.

Beth got ready in a gorgeous cottage in the centre of Abergavenny, and Adam in The Angel Hotel Abergavenny. It was a slightly overcast to start - I quite like the moody grey clouds above The Chapel. It did rain a little in the afternoon, but it was a beautiful day. The Chapel has such amazing light. Beth's designer wedding dress looked absolutely stunning as she walked down the aisle, catching the light and shimmering. I always feel so privileged at this part of the day to be able to see the groom's expression when he see's his wife  to be for the first time!

After the service we walked through the town to The Angel Hotel. The ballroom was dressed beautifully with white tulips and each table named after a type of dance (the waltz they did for their first dance)

We managed to get outside and take some lovely images of the two of them together - it rain a bit! WE walked to the castle where we took some gorgeous images with the blorenge in the distance. It was rot peaceful. As always, it's difficult to choose images to share. But below you can see a set of images from the day - enjoy.
