MELISSA & JAMES - HENSOL CASTLE WEDDING

Melissa & James – Hensol Castle

8th July 2017

On Saturday I had the absolute pleasure of capturing Mel & Jimmy tie the knot! It was slightly overcast which was perfect (for photography!) and a little cooler than it has been recently which was also ideal! Mel & Jimmy got married in a beautiful church just outside the centre of Cardiff. It’s a church I have never been to before and always driven past and thought about how pretty it is and how I’d like to capture a wedding there one day.  It was a very colourful wedding! There was a mix of colours in the bouquets, the grooms mens ties, the table decorations and a cake to die for!

After the service, a red double decker London bus took the guests to Hensol Castle where they were to celebrate the rest of the day – lots of beer and prosecco for the journey too! At Hensol Castle everyone was welcomed with more drinks, this really helped to get the party started. It was clear that Mel & Jimmy were surrounded by their loved ones as there so was so much warmth and happiness filling the rooms of the castle.

Not long before I left, I took Mel & Jimmy to the jetty on the lake to have some time out together before the evening party started. I must be honest I do love photographing each ‘section’ of a wedding day. But one of my favourite parts of the day is when I whisk the couple away for 20 minutes in the evening to create some beautiful images of them together.  During the Summer months the air is cooler at this time and if we’ve been lucky to have a sunny day, we have a sunset and soft low light to work with. But most of all, it’s important that they get this time together just to have a breather and talk away from the guests, just for a short time. The day goes so quickly, and in such a flash, that they wouldn’t get this precious time If I did’t suggest it.

I have gone through the day’s images and chosen a few to share! Enjoy.

LAKE GARDA WEDDING - SCALIGERO CASTLE - GEMMA AND ANDREW

Gemma & Andrew’s Lake Garda Wedding

11th June 2017

I met Gemma & Andrew just over a year ago and was delighted when they chose to invite me to Italy to photograph their special day.  They got married outside on the roof terrace of Malcesine Castle over looking Lake Garda, the views are incredible. They were so fortunate to have a scorcher of a day!

Gemma and her Dad had a fun journey to the castle on a tuc tuc through the quaint cobbled lanes, whilst Andrew and the wedding guests enjoyed music on the terrace awaiting her arrival.  Following the service, the bride and groom had the tuc tuc ride to the side of the lake where the prosecco flowed and pizza and parmesan was in abundance.

We then all walked to the harbour and took a boat ride to La Voglia restaurant for yet more food (five courses! and more prosecco)  When we arrived at the jetty, the bride and groom were greeted by local children that had picked wild flowers and made a home made card for the newlyweds – such a sweet and thoughtful gesture.

I was in my element photographing the day, everywhere you look is beautiful, the landscapes are breathtaking.  I was very excited to look through the day’s images, and put together a small selection that tell the story. I simply cannot wait to go back! ~ Sian

THE LITTLE THEATRE BATH WEDDING - KESHIA AND MATT

Keshia and Matt married in The Little Theatre Bath on Saturday. It was wonderful for me to photograph a wedding over the boarder! In fact I have a lot of non Welsh weddings this year! It’s lovely to work at new venues. This is still a working cinema, it so quaint and pretty! Of course, being a cinema it is very dark, which made lighting a challenge (a good challenge) I had an off camera flash set up to capture Keshia as she walked down the aisle, this light adds a theatrical feel to the mood. The guests were supplied with 3D glasses and were served popcorn doing the ceremony, very untraditional which is fab!

Bath is a beautiful town with such beautiful old stone buildings.  We managed to get outside and take some gorgeous images just before it lashed down with rain! (these shots are some of my favourite from the day) You’ve got to love a bride & groom that will get out in the rain!

There was so much energy at Keshia & Matts wedding, they were a fun couple to photograph. Here are a couple of peeks from the day!

Abergavenny Wedding - Beth & Adam

Easter Sunday was the perfect day to officially start wedding season 2017. After having quite a long break from weddings following the birth of Penelope in September, I was super ready to get back into the swing of things! 7 months really does fly by.

Beth got ready in a gorgeous cottage in the centre of Abergavenny, and Adam in The Angel Hotel Abergavenny. It was a slightly overcast to start – I quite like the moody grey clouds above The Chapel. It did rain a little in the afternoon, but it was a beautiful day. The Chapel has such amazing light. Beth’s designer wedding dress looked absolutely stunning as she walked down the aisle, catching the light and shimmering. I always feel so privileged at this part of the day to be able to see the groom’s expression when he see’s his wife  to be for the first time!

After the service we walked through the town to The Angel Hotel. The ballroom was dressed beautifully with white tulips and each table named after a type of dance (the waltz they did for their first dance)

We managed to get outside and take some lovely images of the two of them together – it rain a bit! WE walked to the castle where we took some gorgeous images with the blorenge in the distance. It was rot peaceful. As always, it’s difficult to choose images to share. But below you can see a set of images from the day – enjoy.

Brecon Wedding - Stuart and Shireen

So many people ask what will happen if it rains on my wedding day?  well, the day goes on! and this one has to be the rainiest wedding day ever that I have photographed! Stuart and Shireen married in Merthyr civic offices then went on to celebrate and party at bunkhouse in a field in Brecon, South Wales. When I arrived at the civic offices I was already soaked though, and the guests were rushing in with their brollies blowing on the wind! we knew we were in for a full day of it, so we embraced the weather and had the most incredible time. The wonderful thing about this wedding is the way Stuart and Shireen’s family and friends were so involved. There was so much detail in the bunkhouse from mismatch bunting, and mismatch plates and cutlery (which looked amazing)  doilies and plastic animals ( these were the table names) that were all set up by the family and friends team leading up to the day.

The bouquets were made by Shireen and her bridesmaids the night before and Shireen even baked a chocolate wedding cake that morning. The food was all vegan (it was stunning) there was gin being poured into tea cups and bubbles and glitter galore. The rain continued throughout the day but we still went outside for photographs! The weather was an opportunity to capture a real unique set of images, and I must say it is one of may favourites to date. You can see in everyone’s expressions, particularly the bride and groom just how much fun they were having! one image ( the black and white one of Shireen peaking out of the car) was selected by Nikon to be used in their ‘I am Nikon 2016’ short film which I was super pleased about.

So, as you can see from this set, if it rains and you’re up for it – get outside, even if it’s for a couple of minutes!
