Well, where do I start! I thought 2016 was an extremely busy year as I worked and welcomed the arrival of our second daughter Penelope, but I was wrong! 2018 sure topped the craziness by 100%

In 2018 I managed to shoot 18 beautiful weddings,20 commercial shoots, 12 portrait shoots, and 6 e-shoots, have a third baby and move house! Not to mention it was the HOTTEST Summer since 1976 – but I did it and I’m so so pleased. I’ve been running my photography business for 6 years now, I can’t believe where the time has gone. I have always worked from a desk in the dining room which has had its challenges as being right in the middle of the house, it’s hard to get quiet time to get on with it all. In our new home I’m so pleased to have my own office space where I can have my work on the wall, files on shelves and albums out to view. It’s amazing how having a creative work space can help with mindset, motivation and personal development.

As I’ve been looking back through last years images, I have been thinking again as to how thankful I am to all of the couples who have booked me to capture their special day. I know I say it each year, on each new highlights post, but I really do mean it. Being able to photograph people going about their lives is a dream come true. Photographs are so important. They are important to us now, but they will be treasured even more in years to come by our children’s children.

I have carefully selected (way to many) images to share with you from 2018. I tried to cut it down, but it was too difficult! So here they are, all 274 of them! I have a couple of weeks off weddings now, it’s a great time to update my website, order new albums and meet up with my photographer friends before we start another crazy season. It’s also wonderful to have free weekends to spend with my family. 2019 is going to be a special year for us too as we are getting married in August. It’s going to be wonderful being the bride and groom for a change! Just to think this time next year as I will be writing my 2019 highlight’s blog as a married woman!

Here’s to what 2019 has in store!

Yasmin & Will

June 16th 2018 – The Plough and Harrow – Wick

I had the honour of photographing this beautiful wedding back in June. Yasmin got in touch a couple of months ago after following my photography on Instagram and loved my style of shooting so I was super pleased I was available on their wedding date. Yasmin and Will were certain that the photography was very important to them!

I’m delighted to share with you a selection on beautiful images from their amazing (very windy) wedding day! The confetti images are my favourites from the set – it was blowing a gale!

Enjoy!

Jodie & Hassan - Camden London e-shoot

Jodie & Hassan engagement shoot

Camden Town, London

I first met Jodie in April 2016 ( I was pregnant with Penny) when we worked on a shoot together. Jodie is a very talented make up artist and beautician. During the shoot we got talking about her engagement to Hassan and their wedding plans! I was delighted following the shoot when Jodie got in touch to say she’d like to book me to photograph their wedding at Margam Park Orangery in September 2018. Jodie and Hassan secured their booking with me two and a half years ahead of their wedding which is amazing. They also booked an e-shoot that we decided to do in Camden Town as they live in London. On Easter Sunday (now with a new baby bump in tow) I took the train to London and had a fantastic time photographing the two of them in such an incredible setting. Jodie and Hassan are clearly in love and their passion for each other shone through out the shoot. I love these images. Their emotional connection along with the colours and vibrancy in such a busy city make me very happy! They also enjoyed every moment of the experience. I’m very excited for the wedding, (there will be no baby bump at the wedding!)

Mr & Mrs Fox Wedding - Holm House Penarth

Mr & Mrs Fox (Alberto & Sally!)

 5th August 2017

St Cadocs Church Llancarfen – Holm House Penarth

At this beautiful wedding, an Angel married a Fox! Alberto and Sally have the best surnames!  The wedding took place in the most gorgeous little church in Llancarfen village in The Vale Of Glamorgan. Sally grew up in this village and her family have been members of the community and church for many years, so it was s really special place for them to say their I do’s. Family and friends met in the village pub and were joined by the Male voice choir – they often like to wet their whistle before their performance! (which was wonderful) The bell ringers were playing very joyful music, you can imagine how lovely it was. It was one of those warm mornings you occasionally get in the Summer! we knew it was going to turn into a scorcher of a day.

After a beautiful service, we all headed to Holm House Penarth where the celebrations continued. All of the guests where able to enjoy the views of the channel and socialise outside in the sun. During the Summer season, I like to split up the time I spend taking bride and groom portraits. I usually spend a bit of time with them before the wedding breakfast. Then after speeches when the sunlight is a bit lower and softer, I like to do some more. As we had such a beautiful Summer evening, we went down the Penarth Pier and seafront and made the most of it! Sally and Alberto had fantastic fox masks which made for fun unique images!

It was such a fun shoot and I love the images I’ve selected to share with you of their special day!

2017 Highlights

2017 Highlights

Well, where do I start? Once again, I cannot believe where the year has gone – maybe it’s because I had another child thrown into the madness! 2017 has been yet another incredible year for me and my photography. I’ve spent a crazy amount of hours in the car driving here, there and everywhere. I’ve witnessed 27 couples say ‘I do’.  I’ve seen tears of sadness and of joy teamed with nerves and excitement. I’ve assisted with button holes, sewn up a bridesmaids dress and transferred guests from church to reception venue! Not to mention taken thousands of images and eaten a fair amount of three course meals and wedding cake! It really has been a ball! (Ooh, and went to a rave in an Italian castle with the bridal party the night before the wedding!)

None of this is possible without the couples that book me to capture and be part of their wedding day. It’s taken me so long to select my favourites for 2017, there are literally thousands to choose from. But here they are!

Love and best wishes to you lovely lot!

MELISSA & JAMES - HENSOL CASTLE WEDDING

Melissa & James – Hensol Castle

8th July 2017

Cardiff_Wedding_Photographer_Hensol_Castle_Wedding_Sian_Owen_Photography-26

On Saturday I had the absolute pleasure of capturing Mel & Jimmy tie the knot! It was slightly overcast which was perfect (for photography!) and a little cooler than it has been recently which was also ideal! Mel & Jimmy got married in a beautiful church just outside the centre of Cardiff. It’s a church I have never been to before and always driven past and thought about how pretty it is and how I’d like to capture a wedding there one day.  It was a very colourful wedding! There was a mix of colours in the bouquets, the grooms mens ties, the table decorations and a cake to die for!

After the service, a red double decker London bus took the guests to Hensol Castle where they were to celebrate the rest of the day – lots of beer and prosecco for the journey too! At Hensol Castle everyone was welcomed with more drinks, this really helped to get the party started. It was clear that Mel & Jimmy were surrounded by their loved ones as there so was so much warmth and happiness filling the rooms of the castle.

Not long before I left, I took Mel & Jimmy to the jetty on the lake to have some time out together before the evening party started. I must be honest I do love photographing each ‘section’ of a wedding day. But one of my favourite parts of the day is when I whisk the couple away for 20 minutes in the evening to create some beautiful images of them together.  During the Summer months the air is cooler at this time and if we’ve been lucky to have a sunny day, we have a sunset and soft low light to work with. But most of all, it’s important that they get this time together just to have a breather and talk away from the guests, just for a short time. The day goes so quickly, and in such a flash, that they wouldn’t get this precious time If I did’t suggest it.

I have gone through the day’s images and chosen a few to share! Enjoy.

Brecon Wedding - Stuart and Shireen

So many people ask what will happen if it rains on my wedding day?  well, the day goes on! and this one has to be the rainiest wedding day ever that I have photographed! Stuart and Shireen married in Merthyr civic offices then went on to celebrate and party at bunkhouse in a field in Brecon, South Wales. When I arrived at the civic offices I was already soaked though, and the guests were rushing in with their brollies blowing on the wind! we knew we were in for a full day of it, so we embraced the weather and had the most incredible time. The wonderful thing about this wedding is the way Stuart and Shireen’s family and friends were so involved. There was so much detail in the bunkhouse from mismatch bunting, and mismatch plates and cutlery (which looked amazing)  doilies and plastic animals ( these were the table names) that were all set up by the family and friends team leading up to the day.

The bouquets were made by Shireen and her bridesmaids the night before and Shireen even baked a chocolate wedding cake that morning. The food was all vegan (it was stunning) there was gin being poured into tea cups and bubbles and glitter galore. The rain continued throughout the day but we still went outside for photographs! The weather was an opportunity to capture a real unique set of images, and I must say it is one of may favourites to date. You can see in everyone’s expressions, particularly the bride and groom just how much fun they were having! one image ( the black and white one of Shireen peaking out of the car) was selected by Nikon to be used in their ‘I am Nikon 2016’ short film which I was super pleased about.

So, as you can see from this set, if it rains and you’re up for it – get outside, even if it’s for a couple of minutes!
